Unique Exhibition of portraits honouring the Cork Legacy launches at Fota House
“Inheritance, Honouring the Cork Legacy”, a project encompassing 300 portraits of important Corkonians, created over the last three years, was officially unveiled at Fota House last night, 13th May. This collection will eventually be included in an overall collection, to be known as The National Portrait Collection of Ireland, which will include portraits from the other 31 counties of Ireland. The finished collection will have over 3,000 portraits.Bringing an air of glamour to the evening was actress Maureen O’ Hara, soon to celebrate her 90th birthday. Maureen unveiled a portrait capturing the spirit of her feisty character in “The Quite Man” at the height of her career. Celebrated actor Neil Toibin also unveiled a portrait at the launch. Fine Gael leader, Enda Kenny TD then unveiled a portrait of retired former TD and Minister for Foreign Affairs Peter Barry, one of the many Corkonians honoured in the exhibition. The complete free exhibition will be open to the public until mid June and thereafter, a collection of the portraits will remain on permanent display at Fota House
